The Best Foods To Keep You Looking Young

According to doctors, our skin starts to show the most signs of aging when we reach our 40’s. Skin loses elasticity and starts to sag while also getting thinner and showing wrinkles easier. Our hair starts to grey and our bones shrink, making us appear smaller and more frail. None of this sounds fun! Luckily, there are these incredible things we call SUPERFOODS that can slow down the aging process and keep our hair, skin and bodies looking younger for longer.

Eat these 10 Superfoods for:

  • Anti-Aging
  • Fighting Wrinkles
  • Hydration
  • Boosting Collagen
  • Looking Younger, Longer!

1. Salmon

Salmon has Omega-3’s, and Omega-3’s help to moisturize the skin and also protect from harmful UV Rays. This helps to battle premature aging and wrinkles. People who eat fish regularly have lower cholesterol and are less likely to suffer chronic conditions such as cardiovascular disease, certain cancers, and Alzheimers disease.
However, salmon also contains Astaxanthin, which is a very power anti-oxidant that can improve skins elasticity and hydration(and gives it that pretty pink colour)!

2. Blueberries

Blueberries contain powerful antioxidants that boost collagen production, and collagen keeps the face looking plumper and younger. They are also known as THE BEST INGREDIENT for keeping your skin looking radiant and nourished. Blueberries also help to slow the development of Alzheimers and dementia. Try getting your daily dose of blueberries by putting them in salads, smoothies or breakfast bowls like this one: Yogurt & Berry Breakfast Bowl.

3. Green Tea

Green tea is such a superhero, seriously. It contains a powerful antioxidant called EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate) that fights UV damage and helps protect the skin. Green tea is also the key to revitalizing mature skin by reducing the look of fine lines and wrinkles. Here’s the real kicker: It can be ingested, but also applied topically to reap the benefits! Try this Organic Green Tea Matcha Powder and add it to smoothies, hot drinks or power bowls, and check out this Vegan Green Tea Facial Gel to get as much of Green Tea’s benefits as possible!

4. Dark Chocolate

You’re telling me that you can look younger by eating chocolate? YES! But, it has to be dark chocolate to really get the benefits. Dark chocolate contains fibre (11grams), Iron, Magnesium, Copper and Manganese, in addition to zinc, potassium, phosphorus and selenium. Not to mention the fact that it’s flavanols can protect against sun damage, and increase skins density and hydration.
The key is to eat dark chocolate in moderation as it does still contain sugar.

5. Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Olive oil is rich in antioxidants that help to combat stress- which is directly associated with aging skin. It also is known to increase collagen in the skin. Similar to green tea, olive oil can be applied topically. Dab some around your face and eye area in the evening to target wrinkles. I put a few drops in my bubble baths and let me tell you, it leaves my skin feeling nourished and supple.
If rubbing it onto your body isn’t your thing, start swapping out butter and margarine (which you should avoid anyways!) and using extra virgin olive oil instead. Try this brand: Pompeian Smooth Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
